Court upholds injunction; IRS reopens PTIN system
The district court that struck down the IRS's return preparer registration program refused to suspend its injunction, but it did clarify that the injunction does not affect the IRS's requirement that preparers use a preparer tax identification number.
Depreciation and education credit forms can be filed with the IRS
The IRS announced that it is now able to accept tax returns that include Form 4562, Depreciation and Amortization, and/or Form 8863, Education Credits.
Individual health care mandate rules under Sec. 5000A proposed
The IRS proposed detailed rules governing the "individual mandate"—the requirement that all Americans maintain minimum essential health care coverage or pay a penalty.
Changes to rules on failure to file gain recognition agreements proposed
Proposed regulations would update the rules that apply when U.S. taxpayers transfer stock or securities to a foreign corporation and fail to file a gain recognition agreement.
