Earlier in this year, The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) published its long awaited “Guidance on Monitoring Internal Control Systems.” The purpose of this guidance is to reduce the amount of confusion in the marketplace about how to evaluate the effectiveness of internal control systems.  This newly-published guidance is important in helping companies and their auditors better meet the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley, the new PCAOB Standard No. 5 - “An Audit of Internal Control over Financial Reporting” as well as other professional, technical and regulatory requirements.
