The topic of “sustainability” continues to be a part of business conversations as key stakeholders and leading policy-setters place greater expectations on senior executives to be more focused on the impact their organizations are having on the global environment. While much of the current sustainability conversation is centered on issues related to the environment, energy, and the global climate, more often boards of directors and senior executives are looking at sustainability from a longer-term strategic, business model perspective. These conversations are forcing business leaders to more robustly consider the “sustainability” of their products and services, to anticipate risks that might threaten the long-term viability of their core business model.
This jointly-sponsored workshop – Evaluating Sustainability Risks for Long-Term Viability – will take you through the process of how organizations are positioning their sustainability focus in the context of their organization’s long-term strategies. While many organizations are focused on the impact of environmental and energy related threats to current business operations, others are trying to expand their sustainability focus to examine longer-term horizons of events and changes that might threaten market demand for their products and services and the inputs needed along their supply chain. Building off an enterprise-wide approach to risk oversight, this workshop will outline a process that can be implemented by business leaders to position their sustainability analysis in the context of emerging risks and strategies.
